Welcome to Melbourne Methodist Chapel web site! We hope you find it both useful & intetresting.

First built in 1811 by the Wesleyan Methodists, Melbourne Chapel was modernized for its 200th anniversary year. Retaining the original 19th century external walls, and thus maintaining the original flavour of the building in relation to its environment, the internal structure was completely redesigned and extended to provide an up to date 21st century facility. It is 200 metres West of the Melbourne Arms on the South side of Main Street.

Melbourne Village:
Melbourne is 12 miles SE of York and 5 miles from the market town of Pocklington. The Pocklington Canal is navigable from Melbourne and connects to the national waterways system via the River Derwent. The Pocklington Canal preservation society runs short narrow-boat trips on summer Sundays and longer trips are available by arrangement for parties. The canal runs adjacent to designated areas of special scientific interest (SSIs) and there is a wide variety of wild life to be seen along the canal tow-path.
